Future
The Alpenpark Karwendel project
The Achensee Steam Cog Railway plays an important role as a means of transport to the Karwendel Project.
Ambitious visions for the future include the track’s extension via Pertisau to the Gramai and further on to the Eng, a connection to the railway of Mittenwald (Mittenwaldbahn) and the Bavarian Railway System.
The project: extension to Pertisau (Karwendel valleys). Electrically powered operation from Jenbach to the Karwendel valleys throughout the year. Additional steam trains.
This would, however, necessitate the construction of a tunnel under the Falzthurn mountain, two to three kilometres in length. A bonus: an additional lakeside bathing and recreational area on newly gained land at Seespitz-Buchau thanks to excavation materials.
